What is wine hutch? The Romans were among the first to discover that, if properly stored, wine can improve with age instead of spoiling, with some Roman bottles left aside for 100 years. Wine sideboards are an option to store the wine. A wine sideboard is as much as it sounds – a similar comfortable piece of furniture that stores the wine. It usually has a main compartment and at least a couple of separate drawers that allow the wine bottles to be both displayed and stored in the proper position, depending on the type.
A wine hutch helps control the factors that affect the effectiveness of a wine aging – mainly dark angles, humidity, cleaning, vibration, ventilation and bottle. As wine sideboards are generally designed to be used inside a house – which also usually has environmental temperature controls – some, but not all, sideboards have temperature control devices.
